Visit by the MEP Francesc Gambús
The MEP Francesc Gambús, member of the Environmental Commission of the European Parliament, visited the UAB Research Park to hear about the reWINE project.
The reWINE project awakened the interest of Francesc Gambús, MEP of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) participating in the Environmental Commission of the European Parliament. This is why, on Friday 13 January, Gambús visited the Eureka building of the UAB Research Park, where he was welcomed by the director, Javier Lafuente.
After a short presentation of the activities of the Park and the lines of research into the environment and sustainability being worked on by the groups and research centres of the UAB Campus, there was a description of two of the projects of program the LIFE being carried out on the campus. On the one hand, Juan Fran Sangüesa, Head of R&D Projects department, explained the reWINE project, and on the other, Julian Carrera, a researcher of the GENOCOV group of the Department of Biological, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering of the UAB, presented the SAVING-e project, whose aim is that current urban wastewater treatment plants no longer be net energy consumers, and be energetically self-sufficient or even net producers of energy.
The visit continued in the building of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA), where they could see the facilities and laboratories and to know all the details of the building, designed with the highest possible criteria of sustainability.
Finally, they visited the Experimental Water Treatment Plant in Rubí, where a pilot test of the technology developed by the SAVING-e program is taking place.
