reWINE at the 14th Workshop on Reduction of Waste
On 24 November 2016, the reWINE project was present in the 14th Workshop on the Reduction of Waste, organised by the Catalan Waste Agency.
The new edition of this workshop was focussed on a Theme Day about Reduction, this year about the reduction of packaging waste. The workshop explained various local public and private experiences and strategies in eco-design and reduction of packaging waste.
The reWINE project was presented as one of the initiatives by Rosa García, director of the Foundation for the Reduction of Waste.
It should be borne in mind that packaging has a wide range of functions including the protection or conservation of the product, to a support to inform consumers of their characteristics.
The fact that the packaging is necessary does not mean that its use is absolutely necessary, nor that its design and manufacture are optimised. Excess packaging has strong impact on the environment and, apart from producing a lot of waste, implies inefficient use of resources.
